(Cushing, Okla.) Russel Thurman, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:17 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer with Kathleen Leithner.
Thurman asked if there were any requests for prayers from members of the Lions Club. (Several members stated that they had someone in need of prayer.)
Lions Club then welcomed all the guests that came today.
Lion of the Day Mary Kelly introduced Kayla Colon, Satellite Victim Advocate for Wings of Hope. Colon travels one day a week to Cushing, Pawnee, and Perry to provide advocacy and crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. She also serves as a Coordinator of the Noble County, Coordinated Community Response Team where Law Enforcement, Prosecution, Victim Services and other Community Resources come together to help increase victim safety and offender accountability. She holds a Bachelor Degree from Oklahoma State University and is also a certified Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Professional along with being a recent graduate of the Oklahoma Victim Assistance Academy.
Colon shared some statics with the club including:
1) 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be the victim of domestic abuse. 2) 286 Emergency Protective Orders were issued. 3) They received 6,002 calls. 4) There were 25 victims of rape. 5) 93 people received immediate crisis counseling. 6) 115 victims.

The meeting adjourned around 1:00 (p.m.) and was followed by a brief board meeting.
