(Cushing, Okla.)  The annual installation of officers ceremony was held at the Lions Den this afternoon with incoming District Governor Oklahoma, District 3H Jacque Mooney doing the honors.

Outgoing Cushing Lions Club President Jim Pickard began the meeting by thanking his fellow members for their service over the past year.

Those being installed for the 2015 – 2016 year were: President – Russell Thurman, 1st Vice President – Mary Kelly, 2nd Vice President – Lou Griffin, 3rd Vice President – Kathleen Leithner, Lion Tamer – Gerald Jolley and Tail Twister – Tom Cummings. Other officers installed but not present were: Kateri Holbert – Secretary and Chuck Crooks – Treasurer.

2015-2016 Directors present were Terry Brannon, Bob Abshier, Vic Caudle and Buck Blake. Derek Griffith, Chris Pixler, Jack Forsyth and Lewis Robinson, Directors, were not present for the installation.

Mooney used the analogy of a rainbow – each color separate – coming together to make something beautiful as part of the installation ceremony, presenting each new officer a bandana representing their office.

Lion Tamer Gerald Jolley received a green bandana and instructed to, as Lion Tamer, to take care of club property and to see that things are in order for each meeting.

Tale Twister Tom Cummings received a bandana with sock monkeys on it to represent his role in the club as greeter and someone that helps create harmony.

Each Vice President received a blue bandana representing their job of healing, love and inspiration.

And new President Russ Thurman received a purple bandana, reminding him he will be “treated like royalty” by his club.

Several members were also mentioned for their years of service to Cushing Lions Club and were to receive pins: Tom Cummings – 10 years; Stewart Arthurs – 15 years; Kevin Clouse – 15 years; John Fechner – 25 years and Rodger Floyd – 35 years.

Following the ceremony, Thurman spoke briefly to the club, saying, “Three years ago I didn’t really know much about Lions. I did not know then – but I see now. Most of all it’s about caring for each other. I’m looking forward to this next year – doing for Cushing.”

Thurman also presented outgoing president Jim Pickard a plaque for his service to Cushing Lions.

Cushing Lions meet each Tuesday at noon at the Lions Den in downtown Cushing.
