Memories Made at CHS Alumni Hall
By Darline Roland Few
CHS Alumni Hall is 17 years old this year. 1998 was the first Memorial Alumni weekend in the Hall. Bank of Cushing and John Bryant ’59 gave the building to the CHS Alumni Association. It is the old CR Anthony’s at 116 E Broadway. There was a lot of work to do before we could move in. Thanks for all who made donations, paint, wood, hard work and much more to make it a reality, for all the memorabilia.
I came back to Cushing for Memorial Alumni weekend in 2000 and decided I wanted to move back to help Patti Brandle and Ester Carter with the Alumni Hall and the Memorial weekends to come.
My classmate Paula (Harmon) Rodman ’57 and I always came back every 2-5 years and stayed a week to help Patti any way we could. We did window displays twice in other buildings for Alumni weekend before we got the Hall.
Patti did a great job in keeping the Hall clean and open 24/7. I couldn’t understand why she loved this place so much – until I started helping in keeping the Hall open Monday thru Sunday, 4-6 hours, and even at night when someone came into town.
Eight years ago the Alumni Association made me CHS Alumni Hall Chairperson. I appreciated the Association letting me be a part of this great organization and all the ones that helped me.
I started reading all the papers, yearbooks and anything I could find about our lines and history in Cushing and our schools.
Each year we were always caulking, painting and doing all kinds of repairs, and need to do some repairs to the awning and inside.
A big “Thanks” goes out to all the classes and people who have given things to the Hall for window displays, and at the banquets. Patti, Ester and I kept all that we could in the back room for classes to use at anytime.
I was President 2006-2007 and Vice President for 2 years 2008-2010. Made most all the decorations for the banquet from 2006-2014. Loved doing so. Enjoy and relive the good times at our 30th reunion. One last “Thanks” to one and all Alumni for my past memories.
