(Stillwater, Okla.) — An assault on a 21-year-old man who was shot in the head at the Logwood Apartments in the 700 block of N. Husband Street on Sunday night remains under investigation, Stillwater Police Capt. Kyle Gibbs said in a news release today.

Stillwater police were sent to the Stillwater Medical Center emergency department at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a gunshot victim seeking treatment, Gibbs said.

The victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was taken by a juvenile to the hospital where he was treated and released, Gibbs said.

“During the investigation, detectives determined at least two shots were fired.

“Two bullets penetrated the floor of the victim’s apartment, as well as a bedroom ceiling of the downstairs apartment immediately below the victim’s apartment.

“The lower apartment was occupied by a family at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, no one in that downstairs apartment was injured,” Gibbs said.

Police were told that two men armed with guns entered the upstairs apartment where the victim and juvenile were staying, Gibbs said.

“The juvenile was forced to the floor while the victim was taken into a bedroom,” where he was shot in the head by one of the suspects during an altercation, Gibbs said.

“Two black male suspects were observed running from the apartment where the shooting occurred, immediately after the shots were fired,” and left in a maroon or burgundy sedan, Gibbs said.

While police were responding to the Stillwater hospital to investigate the shooting, a 911 call was made from a unit at the Logwood Apartments, Gibbs said.

“The caller reported gunshots coming from the apartment several minutes earlier,” Gibbs said.

Officers learned that the two incidents were related, Gibbs said.

No arrests have been made in the case, Gibbs said today.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Stillwater Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit at 405-372-4171.
