(Cushing, Okla.) Jim Pickard, President of the local Cushing Chapter of Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families along with prayer by Russ Thurman.

Club members were informed of the upcoming Oklahoma Lions State Convention in Tulsa April 25th and 26th (2015). Lions interested in attending the convention should inform President Jim Pickard.

The Lions held another small eye screening event again today (March 17th, 2015) at Small Miracles Child Development Center.

Lion of the Day Lou Griffin introduced today’s guest speaker Officer Rachel Hentges of the Cushing Police Department. Officer Hentges is in charge of the local D.A.R.E. program (Define, Assess, Respond, and Evaluate) and has been with the Cushing Police Department for almost 5 years. Prior to coming to work for the Cushing Police Department, Officer Hentges worked for the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse). Officer Hentges is currently teaching her first class for the D.A.R.E. program and has a total of 51 students at Harmony School here in Cushing. D.A.R.E. classes are held each Monday and teach concepts like self-control, risk, and visibility. One of the parts she likes best about her job as a police officer is the work that she’s doing with the D.A.R.E. program. Hentges said while growing up, she always wanted to be a police officer.

The 50/50 raffle had $8.50 in it for the winner and $8.50 for the club.

The meeting adjourned around 1:00 (p.m.).
