(Stillwater, Okla.) — An arrest warrant was issued Monday for a Yale man accused of ramming his pickup into a police cruiser, eluding another officer, operating his pickup with insufficient tail lights, and failing to use a seatbelt, all on Sunday in Yale.
If convicted of the four-count charge, Bobby Gene Hyle, 68, could be incarcerated for 15 years and 10 days, according to court documents filed by Payne County First Assistant District Attorney Tyson Branyan on Monday.
Hyle allegedly drove his 1988 Ford Ranger pickup truck away from Yale Police Officer Stephen Lombard “by accelerating away from the officer several times, making wide and dangerous turns and driving at high speeds that endangered otherwise uninvolved motorists who had to pull to the side of the road for their safety,” and refused to stop despite knowing the officer was in pursuit of him — until finally ramming his vehicle into a different Yale police cruiser, according to the charge.
Hyle allegedly intentionally rammed his pickup into Yale Police Officer Larry Harris’s stationary marked cruiser – with the officer inside – “first ramming the vehicle at high speed, then putting his vehicle into reverse and accelerating into Officer Harris again, the collisions with Officer Harris’s vehicle being so severe that the emergency airbags were activated and that Officer Harris sustained pain and injuries to his wrist that required emergency medical treatment,” according to the charge.
At the time, Hyle was allegedly driving his pickup with insufficient tail lights properly mounted and without using a fastened seatbelt, according to the charge.
