Dorothy Mae Lightner, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Wednesday,September 17, 2014 at the Cushing Hillcrest Hospital at the age of 86.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Ralph Hickman will officiate.Interment will follow at South Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa.Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Ok.

 

Dorothy was born on February 23, 1928 in Canyon, Texas to the late Carl Valentine and Lucy Annette (Humphries) Linnet. She grew up in Sapulpa, graduating from Sapulpa High School in 1945. She gave her heart to the Lord at an early age and attended church throughout her life. Dorothy married the love of her life Clell E. Lightner on December 7, 1945 in Creek County, to this union Christine, Richard, Clifford, Paul and Clell Jr. were born. They lived in Sapulpa a couple of years before making their home in Lompoc, California. She worked pressing pants at the Vandenberg Air Force Base then was a letter carrier for the Civil Service until she was medically retired. In 1978, they decided to sell their home and move back to Oklahoma. They located a 61 acre farm in Stroud close to Dosey Creek where they resided. They enjoyed living in the country. She raised a beautiful garden, canning many jams and jellies from her hard work in the garden.

 

Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her children’s clothing when they were young. She crocheted all of her children afghans, and also made gingham gowns, robes and caps for Christmas gifts throughout the years.

 

After she became a grandmother, she began making a few ponchos, purses and clothingfor them as she was able. Dorothy was very talented and enjoyed giving to others.She loved spending time with her family.

 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Christine Fowler of Cushing, sons Paul Lightnerand wife Martha of Yuma, Arizona, Clell Everett Lightner Jr. and wife Polly of Tombstone,Arizona, brother Ray Linnet and wife Nina of Mounds, sisters Betty Linnet of Sapulpa,Virginia Beaverson and husband Bob of Sapulpa, sisters-in-law Morrine Linnet of Sapulpa,Jo Linnet of Sapulpa, Mildred Lightner of Anaheim, Ca., Freda Gregory of Lompoc, Ca.,twelve grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren,and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Clifford Eugene Lightner and RichardWayne Lightner, brothers Leroy Linnet, Charles Linnet and Carl Linnet, sister-in-lawJean Linnet.
