(Cushing, Okla) — Five of Cushing’s “finest” firefighters are slated to participate in the 3rd Annual Oklahoma City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. They are: Lt. Jody Johnson, FF3 Levi Collier, FF3 Mark Beitz, FF2 James Blevins and Probationary Firefighter Bryant O’Shell.
Opening Ceremony is scheduled to start at 8:00 (am) tomorrow, September 6th, 2014 at 120 N. Robinson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102.
The very first 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb began September 11, 2003 during “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. The first Oklahoma City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb began on September 8th, 2012, with 343 firefighters climbing 110 floors to honor the FDNY 343 and to commit to the promise of “Never Forget”. “They did, so we will” is the committment made by Cushing firefighters as well as others throughout the nation. Registration proceeds from the benefit go towards the Oklahoma Firefighter Foundation.
At 8:47 (am) climbers will ascend 110 floors in honor of one of the FDNY 343. Once completed they will place an accountability tag of the FDNY member they climbed for, on a board to signify they completed the task. Cushing firefighters are climbing for Engine 21 and Engine 22 and will start their climb at the time that firefighters from Engine 21 and Engine 22 did. Full gear is not required but is encouraged for the participants. No additional tools will be allowed during the climb – with the exception of a Denver High Pack.
Participants are asked to arrive at 7:00 (am) to help allow for enough time to sign in and get into the appropriate staging area. All climbers will be required to be signed in not later than 8:00 (am).
