Bill Swart, a longtime Oilton resident, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his sons home in Mannford with his family by his side at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Oilton. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Oilton, Oklahoma.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home in Oilton.

Bill was born on September 19, 1927 near Cottonwood Creek in Rural Creek County, Oklahoma to the late Albert Swart and Crochia (Posten) Swart. He grew up in Mannford/Olive area and graduated from Olive High School in 1945. Following high school, he joined the Navy and served until 1947. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he worked various jobs in California, then Bill started his career in seismograph work for various oil companies, which lead him to Scobey, Montana where he meet the love of this life Catherine “Betty” Cavanaugh. They were married December 26, 1955 and into this union, three boys were born, Anthony, Dale, and Phillip. Together they traveled many different places for his job, and they finally settled down in Oilton in 1971.

Bill retired from SSC in 1989. During his retirement he began enjoying many outdoor activities like fishing, hunting for arrowheads, and he also enjoyed making rock jewelry. Bill enjoyed riding his Harley until the age of 75. He loved visiting with friends and family and preparing smoked meats for them when they would come over.

Bill is survived by his three sons: Anthony Swart and wife Tambra of Sapulpa Oklahoma, Dale Swart of Mannford, and Phillip Swart and wife Janna of Claremore Oklahoma. Two sisters: Imogene Kirkpatrick and husband Tom, Jewel Crawley and husband Don, five grandchildren: Tracey Swart Casey and husband Bryan, Ashley Swart, Ryan Swart, Tyler Swart, Shawna Swart, two great grandchildren: Garrett Casey, Kylie Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Catherine “Betty” Swart, one brother John Charles Swart, one sister, Cora lee Nieffer, and one granddaughter Leslie Swart.
