STILLWATER, Okla. — As a manager, it’s critical that you say these words on occasion: “We need to discuss your performance.†Unfortunately, this statement brings discomfort to managers at every level.
On August 12, as part of the ongoing HR Matters series co-sponsored by the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and Meridian Technology Center, Mackenzie Wilfong, Assistant University Counsel, Oklahoma State University, will share “Managing Difficult Performance Reviews.â€
When conducted well, performance discussions strengthen working relationships, zero in on priorities and identify developmental needs of your team members to meet their short- and long-term goals. This session will provide you with tips and strategies to handle even your most challenging employees.
During this session, you will learn how to:
· Prepare your employee for the conversation
· Overcome review challenges related to poor performance
· Identify nonverbal clues that can reveal hidden thoughts
· Deliver corrective feedback that inspires, motivates and gets results
· Direct the conversation so that your employee leaves with a sense of fairness and commitment
