(Cushing, Okla.)  It’s more than just an empty chair at The Steer Inn, it’s the loss of yet another Cushing icon.

Oliver H. Kinzie, lifelong Cushing resident, local businessman and community leader, passed away early Saturday morning, June 7, 2014, at his home.  He was 89 years old.

After turning over the family business to family – Oliver Kinzie could still be seen sitting in his chair at the Steer Inn, greeting visitors and making sure all the kids (even the big ones) got a sucker.

“He’s in a better place,” Kris Kinzie, his son and owner of Steer Inn told KUSH.  “He’s probably talking to Sean (Kelly) about OSU baseball right now.”

And he probably has a few things to say to the “other Oliver” – Oliver Holderread, who passed away in April…or his son-in-law Dr. Jeff Fielding who passed away in February – just to name a few of Cushing’s leaders we’ve lost in recent months.*

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church.  You may share your condolences with the Kinzie family at www.davisfh.net.
