Elmer “Ray” Scott, of Cushing, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Cushing Hillcrest Hospital, Cushing, OK, at the age of 72. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel.
Ray was born on November 13, 1941 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to the late Eugene and Clemine (Tinnie) Scott. He grew up in Cushing, Ray joined the United States Army in 1967, Ray was a part of a group of men known as the Bushwhackers, they cleared land in the Vietnam War, and Ray was honorably discharged form the Army in 1970. Ray married the love of his life Leah Scouten on October 23, 1971 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, He brought into this union two daughters Pamela and Susan, and two more daughters were born, Tracy, and Holly.
Ray work at Montgomery Ward’s for several years, Ray loved working with his hands and began working as a Mechanic/Brake Specialist, most of all he enjoyed working outside in the garden, he loved camping, and fishing at the lake with his children and family. Ray enjoyed telling stories and sometimes an occasional blonde joke, he loved working with wood and built many bird houses. Ray loved watching his old western movies, Ray had a saying “If you can read you can learn anything”, Ray lived this before his children with all the many different things he could do. Ray was beyond Patriotic, always honoring Old Glory’s Red White and Blue above all others, and after that the Crimson and Cream of the OU Flag. Ray was the Greatest OU fanatic. Loved OU football, and talked about the players as if they were family.
Ray is survived by his wife, Leah Scott of the home, daughters, Pamela Ryan of Stillwater, Susan Hutchinson and husband Donnie of Agra, Tracy Nelson and husband Kevin of Cushing, Holly Scott-Dooley and husband Corey of Cushing, two brother in-laws: Paul Scouten and wife Phyllis of Cushing, Mike Heil and wife Susan of Stillwater, six grandchildren: Brian Scott, Dilan Newberry, Amber Seitsinger, Gregory Nelson, Thomas Nelson, Brandi Nelson, six great grandchildren: Gabby Thorton, Bailey Hinkle, Cassidy Duplissey, Owen Ray Seitsinger, Lilly Burk, Greyson Nelson, and many other nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter HolliDae Nelson.
