Larkin Ashley Gray, 19, passed away unexpectedly in Stillwater on May 4, 2014. Viewing will be held at Strode Funeral Home through Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 10, at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Stillwater with Reverend Jim Jones officiating. Burial will be at Bower Cemetery, Eufaula, OK at a later date. Strode Funeral is in charge of the arrangements.
Larkin was born on December 2, 1994 in Hays, Kansas to Larry Gene Gray and Lori An Brooks Gray. She began grade school at Canadian, OK and graduated from Ripley High School in 2013. Larkin was first chair flutist in her “band family,” led by Mr. Kent Taylor (“Mr T”). The Ripley Band was honored to have been one of only 13 bands from the US invited to take part in a mass band performance in Hawaii commemorating the Pearl Harbor 70th Anniversary in 2011. Another favorite teacher, Mr. T.C. Landry, encouraged her gifts in English and Creative Writing. Larkin had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the choir at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Her passion for cats, Japanese anime, music, and technology helped her to make a wide circle of friends.
She worked at the Carmike Theater in Cushing and McDonald’s in Stillwater.
Larkin is preceded in death by her uncle, Brett Brooks; grandmother Eunice Gray; grandmother, Edith Kimball; great-grandfather Arlie House; great-grandparents W. O. & Lola Bernice Brooks.
She is survived by her parents, Lori and Dan Kimball of Ripley; father Larry Gray of Yukon; three brothers, Patrick, Michael, and Grant Kimball of OKC; grandparents, Kathie and Gene Brooks of Eufaula; great-grandmother, Margie House; grandfather, Dr. Gale Kimball; aunt, Stella McBride; aunt, Claudine Zettlemoyer and family; uncles, Jerry, Tom and Jim Kimball and their families; life partner, Ben Breshears; special friends, including Kyla, Emily, Brittany, Necia; honorary aunts Shelly Cerny, Kathy Gragg, and Tina Adair; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Ripley High School Band, 403 E Cook, Ripley, OK 74062 or Stillwater Humane Society, 1710 S Main St., Stillwater, OK 74074.
