The students at Wilson School had some very special visitors this week — from the Cushing Police Department, Officer Piatt and Officer Livergood,, and the famous Eddie Eagle. These friends came together to teach pre-k students what to do if they ever saw a gun. With a firearm present in about half of all American households, kids must learn that guns are not toys. The Eddie Eagle Gun Safe Program, funded by the NRA, teaches children this vital lesson through four simple steps. Stop! Don’t Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult.
Students watched a seven minute animated video featuring the mascot, Eddie Eagle, who reminded the students what to do if they ever saw a gun, After viewing the video, students were able to repeat back what they learned about never touching a firearm, and if they see one, tell an adult immediately. Each student was given an Eddie Eagle Gun Safe color book and sticker, and had their class photo taken with Eddie Eagle.
The National Rifle Association has this program available for local schools and youth organizations. For more information, please call1-800-231-0752 to get your materials to teach this important safety lesson in your school.
