(Stillwater, Okla.) — An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a teenager who is accused of having shoplifted a $678 television from the Cushing Walmart six days before Christmas.
Rozche Carmella Marie Martin, 18 — whose whereabouts are unknown — could be given a one-year jail term, a $5,000 fine and an order to pay restitution if convicted of the felony charge.
Cushing Police Sgt. Adam Harp wrote in an affidavit filed Thursday that he was sent to the Cushing Walmart on Dec. 20 to investigate shoplifting that occurred the previous night.
One Walmart employee said “when he arrived for duty that he had a note from another employee stating that a TV push-out had occurred,” the previous night, the affidavit said.
Video surveillance showed that the theft of a 74-inch Vizio TV happened at about 8:14 pm. on Dec. 19, the affidavit said.
Two women entered the store through the pharmacy doors and went to the health and beauty section before going to the layway restrooms, the affidavit said.
While they were leaving the restroom, they were met by a Walmart employee who walked with them and was next to them when they loaded the television into their cart, the affidavit said.
The employee then went the other way as the females walked down the main area, split up, and one pushed out the television, the affidavit said.
Outside, they loaded the television in their car and left, the affidavit said.
Questioned by the Cushing police sergeant, the Walmart employee said “the female was a family friend by the name of Rozche Martin,” with whom she went to school, the affidavit alleged.
Although the employee said that she only knew the first name of the other female, Sgt. Harp learned her identity and spoke to her on the phone on Dec. 30, the affidavit said.
The other female said “she and Martin were kicked out of the house where they were staying and that a guy by the name of Mitch took them to Walmart,” the affidavit said.
She said “Martin wanted to get the TV and Mitch was going to help her load it into the car,” the affidavit said.
She said that while they were in the store, they split up and later she saw Martin “pushing the cart out of the store with the TV in the cart and assumed that she paid for the TV,” the affidavit said.
She said “it was later in the car that she found out that Martin did not pay for the TV,” the affidavit alleged. She said that she did not know where Martin was staying or where the TV was, the affidavit said.
“I have attempted to make contact with Martin, but have been unsuccessful,” Sgt. Harp wrote in his affidavit.
