(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing Chamber of Commerce held a reception Monday for Business After School honorees for the months of September and October. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.
Each month one educator, one support staff person and two high school seniors are honored. A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.
Those honored for September were: Luz Parson, teacher; Becky Burt, support personnel; Tristyn Short, CHS senior; and Keegan Myers, CHS senior.
Those honored for October were: Casie Brannon, teacher; Donna Judson, support personnel; Erin Ahrberg, CHS senior; and Trevor Hubble, CHS senior.
Superintendent Koln Knight made the presentations.
A little about the honorees:
Luz Parson has been with her sweetheart Anthony since high school. The couple has two daughters, Ashlee and Emilee. She enjoys reading and playing with her daughters. She is an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and she also works part-time at Dance Star Productions. Luz’s greatest joy as a teacher is seeing her students grow up to become responsible adults with their own children.
Casie Brannon is married to Terry Brannon and has one daughter Ariya. She attends Life Church in Stillwater and enjoys shopping, scrapbooking, spending time outdoors and watching sports – especially when her daughter is playing. If she could take a trip anywhere that costs nothing, Casie said she would like to go to Africa and serve on a mission team in the summer.
Support person Donna Judson has one son, James Judson II and two daughters – Dee Judson Fluke and Stacy Chrisp. She enjoys sewing, watching movies and boating. Community activities include helping her daughter with Relay for Life.
CHS senior Tristyn Short enjoys playing softball and being around her friends – and God. “If I could spend the day with anyone, it would be with God. I would be in awe of His presence alone. I could actually speak to Him,” she said.
Tristyn said her favorite food is BACON! When asked to humbly say what she does well, she said she is good at English and softball. “I recently won the award of 1st Team All Conference – Infielder. I work very hard at softball and I’ve gotten good at it.”
Tristyn’s five-year-plan is to finish college and move to a “big city” to work with criminal victims.
CHS senior Erin Ahrberg enjoys traveling with her family, music, art and cooking. She likes to watch movies, hang out with her friends and youth group as well as read and pet her cat Oscar.
If she could spend the day with anyone – it would be Mother Theresa. “Aside from my mother,” she said, “I would like to spend a day with Mother Theresa so I could gain some wisdom in humility and compassion for those in need.”
When asked what it is she does well, Erin said she is organized and can multi-task well. She is kind, loves the people in her life and is good with children. She is also an athlete.
Future plans for Erin include earning a college degree and “hopefully” on to med school. She would also like to take a medical mission trip of some type.
CHS senior Trevor Hubble enjoys playing Frisbee golf and going longboarding with friends in his spare time – especially his “crew” Gage Stallworth, Mason Roberts, Levi Murray and Adam Loftis. “We have a good time together and always make each other laugh.”
His favorite foods are Buffalo Wild Wings, Chicken Alfredo and pizza.
When asked to brag a little on himself, Trevor said, “I’m kind of a stud at football and I’m really good at making people laugh.
Future plans for Trevor include going to college to learn physical therapy.
