(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing High School will start off the new school year on August 20th. School starts at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m.
We at CHS are excited to start the new school year off with “Meet and Greet!” Students and parents will meet teachers, pick up supply lists, and tour the school. We will also be serving refreshments and would like to encourage all 9th thru 12thgrade students and parents to attend. This will be held on the evening of August 15th, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
We would like to encourage students to pick up their enrollment schedules. Enrollment pick up for students that enrolled last spring is on August 12th and 13th from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00. Enrollment for new students will be on August 15thand 16thfrom 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-3:00.
For teachers- work officially begins on August 14th. We would like to welcome back our high school staff as well as our new teachers that are coming on board. The new staff that have been hired are David Day (Boys Basketball/Science), Don Todd (Girls Basketball), Stephanie Herren (Special Ed), Tim Herren(Ag Ed), Angela Syverson(Science), Katlynn Weathers (Ag Ed), Jon Yates (Baseball), Dustin White (Baseball/Softball), Rusty Morgan (Rec/Leisure, Football/Baseball), and Kyndell Brunner (Assistant Baskeball).

Just to remind students and parents that if you need a reading verification letter for the driving test you need to request that from the counselors 2 weeks ahead of time- they will not be faxed.
We would also like to remind parents and students about the dress code for the year 2013-2014.
The following clothing items are prohibited:
· Excessively short skirts or shorts. No biker-shorts, boxer shorts, or shorts cut high on the sides.
· Shorts and skirts must be no less than mid thigh.
· No low crotched jeans or pants.
· No sagging jeans or pants.
· No pajama pants.
· No house shoes allowed in school.
· All shirts must have sleeves (no tank tops, off the shoulder shirts, halter tops, muscle shirts, etc.)
· No low cut shirts or open back shirts.
· Clothing that reveals underwear, bare midriff, or shoulders are prohibited.
o All holes in pants should be patched (no skin or undergarments showing)
o Shirts must meet the waist band
o Shirts may not be tied up or back to expose midriff.
o Pants should be worn above the buttocks
· Hooded sweatshirts may be worn as long as the hood is not used.
· Clothing which promotes alcohol, drugs, or tobacco.
· Clothing displaying offensive content such as profanity or nudity.
· Clothing which promotes or displays gang affiliation (colors, bandanas, etc.)
· Hats or head coverings (beanies, hoodies, etc.) of any kind.
· Clothing and jewelry with writing or designs that depict prejudice or unlawful acts.
Chains, large rings, jewelry or shoes that may be used as weapons are not allowed on campus
Attendance in school is very important. The school board, in conjunction with the State Department of Education maintains the level of attendance for a student shall not exceed 10 absences per semester. Students who exceed the 10 day absence policy will not receive credit. This policy applies to all absences excused or unexcused. School related activities are not counted as an absence. Also, each three tardies to class will constitute and unexcused absence and will count toward the 10 day absence limit.
