(Cushing, Oklahoma) The #3 ranked Cushing lady tigers traveled to Bethany a second night in a row to face #2 ranked Fort Gibson in the semi finals of state playoffs on Friday evening.
Prior to Cushing’s game, #1 ranked Anadarko was taken down by Mount Saint Mary with a final score of 51 to 39, in what many considered a upset.
In the first quarter action – Ft Gibson took a early lead and by the end of the of the quarter the score was Cushing – 9 to Ft Gibson at 12 points.
The second quarter had Cushing scoreless until the last seconds before halftime and when the Cushing lady tigers headed to the locker room the scoreboard read: Cushing – 11 and Ft Gibson – 24.
In third quarter action, the Cushing lady tigers rallied and ended the third quarter – Cushing: 25 and Ft Gibson – 31
Into the fourth quarter, senior Che’Ron Lewis fouled out with 4:38 left in the game – ending her season with two free throw points in Friday evening’s match. Che’Ron had a tough time in Friday’s match but remains a top shooter for the ladies in this year’s season.
The final score for the semi final game of state playoffs at Sawyer Center in Bethany:
Cushing – 35
Fort Gibson – 52
Fort Gibson will face Mount Saint Mary Saturday night at the OKC fairgrounds at 7:30 pm for the 4A Class State Championship.

Including SR Brittany Youngman, guard and SR Katie McCullough, Guard, for their defensive play in tonight’s battle with Ft Gibson, Cushing’s “Elite 7 seniors” worked hard to make the 2012-2013 lady tiger basketball team one for the history books!
The Cushing lady tigers basketball squad had not been to state play offs in approximately 7 years – and this season will not be forgotten for years to come! Each of these ladies have owned the tiger spotlight on the court, time and time again during the season and are truly a source of pride for the community!
Defensively, JR – Guard -Erin Ahrberg is to be commended as well as FR – Guard -Megan Stump, with SO – Center -Hannah Burris and JR – Forward -Megan McCullough, SO – Forward -Brooke Hightower, SO – Forward -Taylor Smith, FR – Guard -Hannah Ailey,
SO – Guard -Mikaela Weaver and SO – Guard-Chloe Tate rounding out the 16 lady tigers – who took the court by storm in this year’s season with a #3 ranking going into state playoffs and finishing up in the top five in the state of Oklahoma.
Hats off to Coach Brad Crace and Assistant Coach Barrette Shupe, Managers: Lynzie Nuttle, Taylor Music and Brianna Tull, for their guidance in making this year’s CHS ladies basketball team a source of pride for our community.
