(Stillwater, Okla.) — Central Rural Electric Cooperative invites high school juniors attending a school or home schooled in its service area to enter the 2013 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., essay contest. CREC will sponsor two contest winners who will join a delegation of high school students from across Oklahoma for an all-expense-paid tour of the nation’s capital June 14-20, 2013. Students do not have to be CREC members to enter.
To enter the contest, students will write a letter to an elected official about United States energy policy and include their ideas for taking energy to the next generation. Oklahoma’s Youth Tour delegation will join more than 1,500 students from across the United States for the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. Tour participants will visit national monuments and museums, meet members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation and learn more about rural electrification, plus have a chance to make new friends and connections.
The deadline for entries to be received at CREC is March 15, 2013. Entries may be delivered or mailed to: CREC, P.O. Box 1809, 3304 S. Boomer Rd., Stillwater, OK, 74076. Judges will select six finalists who will present their letters at the CREC Youth Tour banquet April 4, 2013, at the CREC Training Center in Stillwater. Two top winners will be selected to join the Youth Tour and four finalists will receive $250 cash scholarships. Judging will include both written content and the presentation.
