(Nashville, Tenn.) – Shawna Russell, Oklahoma’s hottest new female Country Rock artist, will headline her very first club concert in Tulsa at The Vanguard, 222 North Main, on Saturday, January 19. The show starts at 8:00 PM with special guests Cole Porter Band and November Lily. Tickets to the “21-and-over” concert are $7.00 and may be purchased in advance online at www.thevanguardtulsa.com or at the door.
With a unique vocal style that has been compared to Stevie Nicks and Martina McBride and her impressive skills on the electric slide guitar, Russell blends Country, Americana, Pop and Rock music into a show that appeals to a wide range of ages.
Mainstream Country, Texas/Red Dirt and Americana music enthusiasts are embracing the “Okie Songbird,” as she is affectionately called, because her music is real – not manufactured. The Okemah native has been performing since she was a teenager, paying her dues on some of the toughest and also the most prestigious nightclub and concert stages across America. She even served for a time as the featured artist and backing vocalist for fellow Oklahoman, Ty England. Russell’s talent is the rare kind that comes from years of hard work and on-the-job training.
In recent years, Russell has caused the music industry to set up and take notice to what fans already knew. Since 2008, she has released two critically-acclaimed albums on her Nashville and Oklahoma-based record label, Way Out West Records, where she is a co-owner. Those projects have produced a string of singles that have charted in the U.S. and in Europe, including “Should’ve Been Born With Wheels,” “Fire In The Desert,” “Get Right Or Get Left,” “Waitin’ On Sunrise” and “Sounds Like A Party.” And her music has been singled out for praise by some of the top music industry critics and publications in the world, including Country Weekly, MusicRow, Maverick and many others.
2012 proved to be a watershed year for Russell and the Vanguard show will kick off what will undoubtedly be a very exciting 2013. She was recently signed by William Morris Endeavor in Nashville for bookings where she shares the roster with superstars including Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Reba and many others. Russell was one of the most successful independent female artists at radio stations across the country this past year. And she made her national television debut last fall on an episode of the Golf Channel’s popular lifestyle and travel show, GolfNow Dallas, filmed at “Billy Bob’s Texas,” a world-famous Ft. Worth, Texas venue where she has been a house band favorite for years. Russell’s performance skills also attracted the attention of Billboard.com who raved that “Russell dazzled the crowd” when she opened for Kix Brooks in front of over 13,00 fans at the “Summer OilPatch Festival” in Drumright, Oklahoma this past July 4. Her busy 2012 touring schedule also included support slots with Dustin Lynch, Ronnie Dunn, Lonestar, Rick Springfield and others.
“I am so excited to headline at The Vanguard,” states Russell. “It is a cool music room and I am thrilled to have that opportunity to play there. I have worked the casino venues around Tulsa for awhile and had a fun time playing at the Tulsa State Fair this past fall. I look forward to seeing some of my longtime Tulsa-area fans at the show – and to meeting new ones!”

At the Vanguard, every seat is great whether you’re on the floor right in front of the band or comfortably seated in the balcony where you can still see what the band looks like.
