(Cushing) – Cushing Area Letter Carriers were among tens of thousands of Letter Carriers around the country participating in the annual Letter Carriers Food Drive, and this year’s event was a big succes.

Ann Bonhomme of the Cushing Post Office says this year’s drive netted more than 2600 pounds of food, which is about 500 pounds more than was collected in last year’s drive.

The food donated by area resident this year will benefit the Action, Inc. food bank and Love’s Excelling Way Shelter for the homeless.

Bonhomme says Oklahoma ranks third in the country for the number of people considered hungry, and also noted that many food banks in Oklahoma had seen diminished donations this year because of the economic downturn.
