Jerome Dean Mukes, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on August 3, 2012 in the O.U. Medical Center in Norman, OK at the age of 68 years.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2012 in the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Cushing, OK.  Burial will follow in the Silver Star Cemetery.

Jerome Dean Mukes was born on March 17, 1944 to Mary Johnson Maxwell and Edd Mukes in Dudley, OK.  He attended school in Carney, OK.  Jerome then entered into the United States Army.  After receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Oklahoma City where he began working for the Parks and Recreation Department.  Jerome later moved to Cushing where he worked in the industrial service.  He loved to cook, hunt, garden and ride around in his truck.

Jerome leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted companion of 29 years, Maxine Tucker, two sons, Tyron Mukes and his wife Wendy of Cushing and Carnell Mukes of Taft, OK; two sisters, Alice Gordon of Midwest City, OK, and Frances Cohran of Inglewood, CA; one brother, John Maxwell and his wife Clara of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; three stepchildren; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and five sisters.
