John Charles “Charlie” Cline passed away at the Linwood Village Nursing Home in Cushing on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.  A memorial service in his honor will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Ok.

He was born on January 9, 1936 in Stilwell , Oklahoma , the son of George William and Mary (Burnett) Cline.

He graduated high school in Paris , Arkansas , attended Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore and graduated from Arkansas Technical University in Russellville , Arkansas , with a bachelor’s degree in business.

He married Linda Bernet Cline, then of Claremore, on December 21, 1957 .  After graduating from Arkansas Tech he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, served a six month tour of duty in Columbus , Georgia , and remained in the Army Reserve for several years.  He then was employed by Arkansas Valley Industries as their transportation manager.  He remained in that position for three years and became interested in the long haul trucking industry.  With his brother, Neil, he started Cherokee Lines, a 48 state refrigerated trucking company.  After they closed the company he became a rancher, raising cattle and quarter horses.  He loved animals and derived much pleasure from this occupation.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, son Cary and daughter Amy.  He has four grandchildren:  Hannelore Linder, Caroline, David and Clifton Cline, and one great granddaughter, Maccey Linder, brother Neil Cline and wife Sue, sister Carol Wert and husband Alan of Carlisle, PA., numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
