It was a busy morning at City Hall Monday as new commissioner Jim Hogrefe was sworn in by City Judge Steve Cubbage. Hogrefe won the run-off election against incumbent Lynda Smith held April 1.
“Welcome aboard,” said commissioner John Henckel as Hogrefe took his seat joining the four other commissioners on the platform.
At that point Vice-chairman John Henckel called the meeting to order. The only item on the agenda was the election of a new chairman.
“I nominate Evert Rossiter,” Hogrefe stated boldly – opening the floor for a second.
Silence
With no second, the group moved forward, once again opening the floor for nominations.
Joe Manning made a motion to elect John Henckel as chairman which was quickly seconded by Tommy Johnson. Henckel won 4-1, with Rossiter casting the only no vote.
Next a vote was taken to fill the position of vice-chairman left vacant by Henckel.
“I nominate Joe Manning,” said Tommy Johnson. “I second it,” said Henckel. Manning also won 4 -1, – again Rossiter cast the only no vote.
As is customary, Henckel and Manning will also act as chairman and vice chairman of the Cushing Municipal Authority, Cushing Hospital Authority and the Cushing Industrial Authority boards.
The next regular meeting will be held Monday May 19.
