Gerald R. Hall, lifelong Cushing resident and businessman, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the age of 87 years.
Gerald was born in Cushing on January 30, 1925 to Chester Eldon Hall and Jurene Ruth Grigsby Hall. Gerald graduated from Cushing High School in 1942. Enlisting in the Marine Corp in 1943 at the age of 18 and he was stationed in Hawaii during WWII. He was discharged 2 years, 8 months later in 1946. After returning from the Marine Corp he worked with his parents in the moving and storage business, eventually taking over as president of Hall’s Moving and Storage. During this time he met a classmate, Leona Sherrod. The couple was united in marriage on July 22, 1947. To this union three boys were added: Larry, David and Bill.
Gerald found great pleasure living and serving in Cushing. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cushing, and enjoyed serving in different aspects within the church including: being a greeter, working as Sunday School Director, Y.P. Department and a Preschool Leader. For over 60 years he served as a member of Cushing Lions Club. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Prior to his death Gerald was a realtor, and had worked part-time for the Davis Funeral Home. He’d been president of the Cushing Board of Realtors, president of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce, president of Lions Club and president of the Associated Motor Carrier Mover Division. On June 24, 2008 he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award from the Lions Club International and in January of 2009, he was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.
Survivors include his children, Larry and his wife Mary of Cushing, David and his wife Vickie of Tomball, TX and Bill of Osage Beach, MO; grandchildren, Chuck and his wife Theresa, Natalie, Seth and his wife Denisse, Matt and his wife Radha, Joshalyn Ocker and her husband Mike, Sheli Thomas and her husband Trey, Michelle, Randy Love and Casey Love; great-grandchildren, Xzavier, Zander and Genevieve, Bryce Ocker and his wife Laci, Sarah, Abby, Sydnee, Sherrod, Elly, Selah, William, Wallace, Calvin & Knox Ocker; great-great-grandchild, Hayden and Payton Ocker and other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Hall and a very much missed great-grandson, Riley Thomas.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M., in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Moore and Brother Ralph Hickman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be, Don Ethridge, Dave Cargill, J.D. Berry, Sid Shaw, Gerald Jolley and Ralph Wilson.
Honorary casket bearers will be Rodger Floyd, Wilmer Smith, Oliver Kinzie, Oliver Holderread and Larry Murphree.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Association (Cancer and Alzheimer’s) in his memory.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, East of the funeral home.
