(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Drumright man has been ordered to appear in Payne County District Court on May 4 on a felony charge accusing him of knowingly concealing from the rightful owner a television that had been stolen in Cushing.
Cody Wayland Jones, 21, appeared in court Friday without an attorney. He had been released from the Payne County Jail on $2,500 bond following his arrest last week, court records show.
Cushing Police Officer Jerrod Livergood was sent on Feb. 16 to the 500 block of E. Main Street on a report that a residential burglary had occurred, court records show.
A Cushing man said that while he was gone, someone broke into his house and took his 42-inch flat screen Sanyo television, Livergood wrote in an affidavit. The Cushing man said that Jones was a possible suspect, the affidavit said.
About two weeks later, the officer was sent to a Cushing woman’s apartment — where a possibly stolen television was located, the affidavit said.
The man whose television had been stolen said that the set in the woman’s living room looked exactly like his, the affidavit said.
The woman said that she was in the process of buying the TV from “Cody,” the affidavit said.
She said that on Feb. 26, “Cody approached her and asked if she wanted to buy a 42-inch Sanyo flat screen television set,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that Cody told her he kept this TV which he and his girlfriend were using when they broke up, the affidavit alleged.
She said that “Cody sold her the television without a remote control,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that the owner of the television came to her apartment with his remote, which worked on the television that Cody had sold her, the affidavit said.
She immediately returned the television to the man, the affidavit said.
While on scene, the Cushing police officer tested the remote control on the television that the man had brought from his residence, the affidavit said.
“The television worked correctly with the remote as I changed the channel and volume,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
If convicted of knowingly concealing stolen property, Jones could be given a five-year prison term and a $500 fine, court records show.
