(Payne County, Okla.)  Payne County Assessor James Cowan announced Tuesday that the 2012 valuation notices have been mailed to Payne County taxpayers who have an increase in their assessed value.  April 9th, the Assessor’s office mailed out nearly 14,000 notices.

Cowan, wants taxpayers who received the notice to know that the previous value listed on the notice is actually the 2010 value and NOT the 2011 valuation.  He apologizes that the system error was not caught prior the mailing of the notices, but wants to assure taxpayers that the 2012 value on the notice IS the correct assessed value.  Taxpayers who have questions in regard to their notice, or would like to know the correct value for 2011, are encouraged to call the Payne County Assessor’s office at 405-747-8300, or email [email protected].

Cowan stated that he is “proud of his open information policy with the public, and as long as he is in office, he will remain to be upfront with the taxpayers and citizens of Payne County.”

Any taxpayers who wish to protest the new 2012 assessed value of their property have until May 7th to come in and talk to the assessment team during the informal protest period.
