(Cushing, Okla.) Soup Thyme 2012 is behind us now, but the taste can’t help but linger on. Downtown Cushing was busy with lots of folks taking advantage of the annual fundraiser to get a taste of different soup recipes, visit with downtown merchants and enjoy an unseasonably warm day.
Eight downtown businesses participating in the “soup off” with Cushing Citizen taking the prize with a version of Wild Rice Soup – sans the wild rice. The creamy concoction was voted the best by a panel of judges comprised of Denny Bond, SpiritBank; Jamie Cloud, Bank of the West; and Brenda Magdeburg, Bank of Cushing.
First-timer Cimarron Tower won the vote of the people for the best theme decor.
Those participating in Soup Thyme 2012 were: Beasley Technology, Cushing Citizen, Uptown Girls, Show n Tell Times, Khris Fowler Insurance Agency, Edward Jones Investments, Cimarron Tower and Stu’s Music.
Bag-piper Andrew Clinard provided St. Patrick Day inspiration by walking around to the different businesses playing classic tunes.
This is the third year for Soup Thyme, a fundraiser for the Downtown Cushing Revitalization Association. Marilyn Duff, organizer for the event, said 200 soup mugs were purchased. Funds raised go to the maintenance of Centennial Park.
