Curtis Rudolph Redden, age 84 of Cushing, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at his home in Cushing.  Funeral services will be held at Palmer Chapel at 11:00am on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.   Mr. Wendyl Heffington will officiate.  Interment will begin at 10:00am at Ft Sill National Cemetery on August 9, 2011.

Curtis was born on July 21, 1927 in Mexia, Texas to the late Samuel Wiley and Nettie (Johnson) Redden.  Curtis grew up and attended school in Mexia.  He entered the Merchant Marines and began his military career.  After a few years, he re-enlisted into the United States Army where he became an Army nurse.  Curtis served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, retiring after 20 years of service.  He married the love of his life Leota Langston on October 9, 1975.  They made their home in Hawaii for fourteen years, where he really, really loved to play golf.  Curtis was the assistant pro-golfer on Scoffield Barricks in Hawaii for a number of years.  He also worked as a L.P.N. at a nursing home for a few years.  He liked to bowl and play penuckle.  They moved to Florida and lived for a few years before moving to Cushing in 1994 to be near family.  They became members of the Church of Christ.  He was a L.P.N. at Cushing Hospital for a few years and owned the Pro Shop at Drumright Golf Course for around five years, where he also enjoyed golfing.

Curtis is survived by his wife Leota Redden of the home, son Curtis Redden Jr., daughters Barbara Phillips and Linda Redden, Donna Mahon and husband Ron of Cushing, brother Sam Redden and wife Linda of Minnesota, sister Mary Gifford and husband Clayton of Belton, Tx., sister Dean Vinson of Oklahoma City, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Adolphas Redden and and sister Ella Puckett.
