(Cushing, Okla.) It could be said Cushing Rodeo Queen contestant MaKayla Foster has rodeo in her blood. She is the 10 year old daughter of David and Angela Foster, and according to her mother, the 5th grader from Drumright has been raised around the rodeo life. “Her father was a bull rider and now calf ropes,” Angela said, “and her older brother Layne rides bulls.”
As for MaKayla, she enjoys break-a-way roping and going on trail rides with family and friends. Twice a year she enjoys going to the Kiamichi Mountains to camp – where there is no running water, electric or cell phone service – and “all there is to do is be on her horse from daylight till way after dark.”
She has been a member of the Drumright Round-Up Club where she participated in the play days, running barrels, poles, flags, and goat tying.
When she’s not on horseback, MaKayla plays basketball, and has played softball and was a little league cheerleader. She is also a member of the River of Life Church in Drumright.
It’s been MaKayla’s desire to be Cushing’s rodeo queen since she was approximately 5 years old when her cousin, Natalie Larson was the 2006 Cushing PRCA Rodeo Queen. As for the future, her dream is to go to college and become a veterinarian like her older sister Heather.
