(Cushing, Okla.) A Cushing youth participated in the Oklahoma state level competition of the 2011 Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) this weekend in Arcadia, Oklahoma. Preston Prock, placed in two different events at the state level.
Prock competed against 22 other contestants at the junior age level, and came away placing first in the Muzzleloader division and second in the .22 rifle division. Last year, Prock won third at the state level in the muzzleloader category.
YHEC is an NRA program open to all youth who have completed the hunter education program at the state or provincial level, and is conducted under simulated hunting conditions to provide the best practical environment for reinforcing and testing a hunter’s young skills. Other divisions offered at the YHEC event are archery, wildlife identification, orienteering, hunter safety trail, hunter responsibility exam, and shotgun. Since its inception since 1985, YHEC has reached more than 1 million young sportsmen and women.
