Sylvia Marie Perkins of Yale passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the age of 98. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Yale and will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Church of God in Yale with Pastor Mike Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery.
Sylvia was born March 29, 1912, in Alto Vista, Kansas, the daughter of John W. Dennis and Sarah Elizabeth (Dockins) Dennis. She grew up in the Yale, later living in Colorado for five years as a child. Then she returned to Yale, attending Lone Elm Schools in Pawnee County and Eagle Schools. She married Lester N. Skinner on June 8, 1928 in Pawnee. He preceded her in death in 1965, after 37 years of marriage. She married Earl Graven who preceded her in death. Sylvia married J.C. Perkins in 1979, and the couple made their home in Sand Springs for ten years, moving back to Yale in 1993. He preceded her in death in 2004, after 25 years of marriage. She was a member of the Church of God. Sylvia loved crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed giving away quilts and afghans to many over the years. Sylvia also enjoyed fishing and spent time at the Bear’s Den Resort, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Lester O. Skinner of Maramec; daughter Oleta Ellington and husband Howard of Yale; sister-in-law, Lena Dennis of Yale, as well as 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter Charlene Eikenbary, sister Luzettia Moser; brothers David, Herbert, and Everett Dennis.
