(Stillwater, Okla.) – The fatal shooting of an armed suicidal man by Stillwater police officers on March 28 was justified, Payne County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Etherington told KUSH.
The man, identified as William John Dominguez, 31, was fatally shot after he refused to put down a gun and knife, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a news release.
Dominguez had called 911 at 8:15 p.m. on March 28 and indicated that he was suicidal, according to a Stillwater police news release.
The caller said that he was armed with a gun and knife, the news release said.
The caller told the dispatcher he was walking south from an apartment complex on North Boomer Road in Stillwater and that he was going to jump out in front of traffic, the news release said.
Two Stillwater police officers observed a man walking south on the east sidewalk of the 1300 block of North Boomer Road, the news release said.
The officers approached the man that they saw walking to find out if he was the caller, the news release said.
As the officers approached, the man produced a pistol and a knife, the news release said.
Both officers fired their weapons and the man was shot, the news release said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.
Neither of the Stillwater police officers was injured in the incident, the news release said.
The Stillwater Police Department requested that the OSBI investigate the shooting, the news release said.
