(Cushing) – There will be no school board race in Cushing this year, with only the incumbent filing for re-election during the three day filing period which closed Wednesday. Local Veterinarian Dr. Frank Denney is re-elected to another 5 year term on the Cushing Board of Education. Denney told KUSH Wednesday evening that he is pleased to serve on the board. “I enjoy it….I really do. If I weren’t a veterinarian I would probably be a teacher because I just love education. I look forward to working with Mr. Knight as we move forward.”
Denney has served on the board continuously since 1988, having first been appointed to fill an unexpired term on the board. Since then he has been re-elected four times, usually without opposition. Dr. Denney is the current President of the Board, a post he has held for the past two years, and previously during other terms as a member.
Denney acknowledged some concerns about school funding for the remainder of the year, as well as next year. “There are still some things the State has to figure out in regard to funding, and we will just have to wait to find out what they’re going to do, but I think we’re going to be better off than we were when we went through this five or six years ago.”
Denney and his wife State Representative Lee Denney have two children who attended Cushing Schools. Denney says the oldest, Will, was just starting school, while the youngest, Kate was just a baby when he first began serving on the Board of Education.
