A group of CHS Alumni, now known as “Dora’s Kids,” have set out on an exciting journey to honor our beloved mentor Dora Hobbs. Our mission is to tell the story of this extraordinary woman and her work with the youth of Cushing High School during her 21-year tenure as Speech and Drama director, English teacher, and Student Council sponsor.
We thought the best way to accomplish this is to rename the CHS Auditorium in honor of Dora Hobbs. The Cushing School Board enthusiastically approved and granted the renaming of the CHS Auditorium. It will now officially become the DORA HOBBS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER!
Our goal, with your help, is to celebrate and dedicate the Dora Hobbs Performing Arts Center during the annual CHS All-School Reunion this coming May. This is what we need to accomplish to make this happen. As each component is funded, it will be implemented in the following succession:
Component #1 Install lettering on the front of the building:
DORA HOBBS (Individual 8-inch metal letters)
PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (Individual 4-inch metal letters)
Component #2 Install lighting equipment to illuminate exterior lettering.
Component #3 Install metal plaque (18×24) in the theatre lobby with a written tribute to Mrs. Hobbs and her accomplishments.
Component #4 Display 11×14 inch photo/portrait of Mrs. Hobbs, double-matted and framed utilizing non-glare glass.
Component #5 Install lighting equipment to illuminate the plaque and photo/portrait.
We need to raise an estimated $7,000 now to enable us to begin work on these components so the project can be completed by early May 2010. Please send your tax-deductible financial gift as soon as possible using the attached form.
