Lieutenant Derek Griffith was the special guest speaker at Rotary Club last Thursday. Griffith has been with the Cushing Fire Department for the past 10 years – five of those years he has served as fire investigator.
Griffith gave a brief summary of what a fire investigator does. Gathering clues at the scene, witness statements, photos, sketches, etc. are just part of the investigation. Griffith, a CLEET certified commissioned police officer as well as firefighter, said the the fire department works hand in hand with Cushing police. He went on to say that 25 – 30 percent of fires are undetermined. Asked what the most common cause of fire is he replied, “Electrical. I know – it’s almost cliche"”
Cushing Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon in the Steer Inn banquet room.
