Wednesday was a day to remember – Veteran’s Day 2009 – as citizens and veterans gathered to honor those who have served and are serving in the military.

Rep. Lee Denney spoke at ceremonies held at City Hall, Fairlawn-New Zion Cemetery and Euchee Valley Cemetery.  Over 1200 veterans are currently buried at Fairlawn-New Zion Cemetery.  American Legion Post 108 hosted ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. while the VFW hosted the ceremony held at Euchee Valley.  Immediately following the Euchee Valley ceremony, veterans were invited to a luncheon at the VFW.

The 10 o’clock ceremony included an Air Force Firing Squad and buglar, a bag piper and a fly-over by Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters.
