This past Saturday, members from throughout the Cushing community came together for a great cause – serving those less fortunate. The micro mission set to clean up the outer portion of Love’s Excelling Way, a shelter for those needing temporary or transitional housing, located at the intersection of Maple and Depot Streets, was completed.
Members of the community ranged from ordinary citizens, to church pastors, to community leaders, which included Cushing Mayor John Henckel. Workers arrived to just before 8:00 a.m. and began a massive clean-up effort that was all but completed by 10:30 a.m. On Friday, the day before the clean-up, the property was mowed by Brent and Willie Kerr.
Organizer Terry Brannon said, “We could not have had a better response. I really do appreciate all the workers who attended on Friday to mow and Saturday to launch the clean-up effort. Cushing is a community filled with great people who are interested and committed to serving for the betterment of those who are in need. It is my hope that people will go by the shelter and catch their vision to help restore people, giving them a real sense of hope as they transition from one segment of life to another.” Brannon continued, “Even though some were unable to help with the clean-up they brought gloves by for those who were working, in addition to other tools. This just shows you the heart of our community.”
