Cushing Firefighters were seen over Labor Day weekend doing what they do the best (aside from fighting fires and saving lives, of course) – lending a helping hand.
Cushing Firefighters, along with firefighters across the country, participated in the annual event known as the “Fill the Boot” campaign. The campaign, in conjunction with the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Telethon, raises money to help children with muscular dystrophy.
Those traveling through the west end of town at Main and Little over the Labor Day weekend, were sure to have seen Cushing Firefighters asking citizens to “fill the boot.”
And fill it they did.
Fire personnel, from 9 a.m. – noon, Friday through Monday, collected over $3,041 – yes, that’s over THREE THOUSAND and FORTY ONE dollars – all to help children with muscular dystrophy.
“The generosity of those who donated to this excellent cause is deeply appreciated,” said Joe Hale, local president of the Firefighters Association union. “These giving individuals make this event a success each year. A big thank you is in order for the people of Cushing for all their help.”
The total for this year’s Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon was $60.5 million.
