(Cushing) – Cushing Police spent a great deal of time trying to identify car burglary victims and return property to them after taking three people into custody early Monday morning in connection with a series of car burglaries. Police Chief Terry Brannon is asking area residents to check their cars to see if they were victimized.
Three people were taken into custody, and formal charges have been filed against two people. More charges could be filed. Brannon says a variety of items were stolen in the burglary spree, including car stereos, purses, credit cards and other valuables.
In a news release, Brannon commended the police work of Sgt. Mark Jobe, and MPO Adam Harp:
This morning just before 6:00 a.m., Sgt. Mark Jobe saw a car in the alley in the 800 blk E. 2nd Street, with the trunk open. Sgt. Jobe stopped the car and was able to determine that the people inside the vehicle had been involved in an overnight vehicle burglary spree. Three (3) people were taken into police custody, and interviewed at the police department, later resulting in the arrest of Cushing residents Phillip Anthony Wright, WM, 18 years of age, and a 16 year old juvenile. Both were processed into the Cushing jail on complaints of auto burglary. The juvenile was later released to a guardian. A third person also taken into custody has not yet been formally charged.
As the investigation has progressed, police have been busy recovering property believed to be stolen from across the city. Thus far, police have been able to recover at least 5 car stereos, a purse, speakers, money, credit cards, and other miscellaneous property. Police are continuing to look at previously reported thefts in an attempt to identify victims.
Again, citizens are reminded to check their vehicle, regardless of what part of the city they may live in, to determine if they have been a crime victim. It is our belief that these suspects worked throughout the city during the night.
Chief Terry Brannon said, “I want to commend the excellent investigative work by Sgt. Mark Jobe and MPO Adam Harp. The teamwork that continues to take place at this moment is representative of our commitment to help crime victims, and put thieves in jail where they belong. The work by Sgt. Jobe and MPO Harp, as well as other police department members, continues to represent our commitment to help keep Cushing a safe, livable city.”
Anyone with information or who suspects that they may be a vehicle burglary victim is encouraged to call the police department at (918) 225-1212.
