Police Chief Terry Brannon went over items from Ordinance No.

04-20-09-04 on the Donna and Molly Show Monday.  The ordinance lays out

the “rules of the road” regarding the use of alternate vehicles on

Cushing streets.

“Many folks mistakenly believe the golf cart they’ve purchased is road ready,” Brannon said, “but that’s not necessarily the case.”  Vehicles must be checked out by Cushing Police Department and issued a permit.  Cost of the permit is $5.  The following criteria must be met:

First and foremost on the check list:  Operators must have a valid automobile drivers license.

Golf carts or utility vehicles must have liability insurance verification.

Vehicles must have the following equipment:  Daytime running lights, rear stop light, turn signals, rearview mirror, locing brake, seat belts, horn and a manufacturer’s serial number plate (VIN).

Certification sticker, once issued, must be displayed on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Minibikes and All-Terrain vehicles are not included as part of this ordinance.

Drivers may travel city streets with the exception of the following:  Linwood (except to cross intersection), Little Ave. (except to cross intersection), Highland (may travel between Walnut and North to cross Main – the only place one may cross Main St.), Kings Highway (except to cross intersection), Broadway – East of Little (except to cross intersection) and Main Street (with the exception of the aforementioned crossing point at Highland).

The penalty for violation of any of these ordinances is $100 plus court costs.  Violation of any rules of the road is the normal fine.

Chief Brannon encourages anyone with questions to call him at 918-225-1212.
