Elvis G. Earnest, age 71 of Perkins, passed away on June 8, 2009 at his home in Perkins.  Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Perkins Church of the Firstborn, Perkins, OK.  Brother Roger Lane and Brother Arnold Herrmann will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, OK.
 
Serving as casketbearers will be Rick McCoy, David Mason, Durward Stevens, Marshall Rodgers, Toby Mason and Scott Heddleston.  Honorary casketbearers will be Taylor Butts, Daryl Evans, Gary Mercer, Troy Earnest, Jack Lane, Jerry Lane, Frank Lane, and Jack D. Jones.
 
Elvis was born on November 16, 1937 in Oklahoma City to the late Jasper Newton and Lona Mable (Evans) Earnest.  He grew up in Agra and attended school in Agra.  Elvis worked for O-Kan pipeline for a few years.  He married Carol Myers on September 16, 1958 in Cushing.  Elvis worked for the State and Payne County Highway Department.  He retired from the Payne County Highway Department in 1998.  Elvis also worked as a brick mason all of his life.  He was always a busy bee.  After retirement, he volunteered helping others with their projects.  He never said, “No” when it came to helping others.
Elvis was baptized into the Church of the Firstborn in 1953 in Tulare, CA.  Elvis was a minister for many years.  He enjoyed singing, traveling, playing the piano, and most of all spending time with his wife and family.  Some of the joys in his life included spending time with his son, Dondi, on their shared birthday and listening to his daughter, Gayla, play the piano.
 
Elvis is survived by his wife of fifty years, Carol of the home, son Dondi Earnest and wife Anita of Perkins, daughter Gayla Boyd of Perkins, brother Troy Earnest and wife Norma of Cushing, brother-in-law Jack D. Jones of OKC, sisters Elsa Stevens and husband Harold of Cushing, Fleeta Kay Mason and husband David of Cushing, grandchildren Annie Mills and husband Tim, Kody Boyd and wife Kim, Denise Wooden and husband Darin, Dana Machado and husband Alfred, Tammy Anderson, great grandchildren Jace Reed Mills, Kailyn Wooden, Karson Wooden, Aydin Machado, and Lexi Anderson.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and four sisters.
