(Cushing) – A Stillwater man was arrested by Cushing Police on Drug and traffic charges after a traffic stop in Cushing on Wednesday. Cushing Police Chief Terry Brannon says the traffic stop was initiated by Officer Matthew Piatt after the driver failed to signal a turn at 2nd and Central yesterday Morning about 9:30 AM.
The driver, Kelly Ray Davis, 32, of Stillwater, was arrested for driving under suspension.
Police say that During an inventory of the car Davis was driving, a small plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance was found. In addition, a small flashlight was also found inside the car that contained several small plastic baggies that contained a white powdery substance. It is believed that the small plastic baggies found inside the flashlight were packaged for sale. Portions of the white powdery substance were field tested, testing presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The white powdery substance will be submitted to the O.S.B.I. for further testing.
After Davis was taken to the Cushing jail and processed, he was placed in a jail cell. As the investigation continued, police learned that Davis might have secreted additional illegal drug evidence on his person. Police searched Davis’ jail cell, finding a hidden plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance, which field-tested presumptive positive for marijuana, and smoking pipe. Davis admitted that the items found the inside the jail cell were his, and had been secreted on his person after he first saw Officer Piatt before being stopped.
Davis was jailed on complaints of: Driving under Suspension, No Insurance, Possession of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) with Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS without a Tax Stamp, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
In addition to Davis being arrested, two juvenile passengers who have addresses listed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, were also arrested on drug related complaints. Both juveniles were released to their parents.
Davis made an initial court appearance Thursday in Payne County District Court.
