Each month during the school year, Cushing Chamber of Commerce holds Business After School to honor one teacher, one support person and two CHS seniors – one girl and one boy.
Those honored for March are: Alicia Calavan, first grade teacher at Harrison Elementary, Linda Davis, assistant to the superintendent of schools, Megan Vier and Ethan Simpson.
Alicia Calavan, first grade teacher at Harrison, is married to Joshua and is expecting their first child around the first of August. As a teacher, she said her greatest joy is watching the faces of her students when they are intrigued and excited about what they are learning. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog Ella. She loves to sing – which may be why she listed Christian singer Natalie Grant as the person she would most like to spend the day with. As for her favorite reading material, aside from the books she reads to her students, Calavan said she’s been reading things to prepare her to become a mother.
Linda Davis is married to Steve and they have three daughters, Christi, Tanya and Tori and a four-year-old grandson Zachary. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, traveling and reading. “Linda gets things done before I even have to ask her to,” Superintendent Eddie Williams said. “My mother always said if you can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything. There’s not anything I couldn’t say about Linda.”
Student of the month Megan Vier is the daughter of Richard and Melanie Vier and the girlfriend of her fellow student of the month, Ethan Simpson. She has two sisters and one brother and a nephew. When asked what book she recently enjoyed reading she said, “The Secret Life of Bees.” “I love the whole book!” Vier said. In her spare time she enjoys sewing as well as spending time with family and riding four wheelers.
Student of the month Ethan Simpson is the son of Karry and Lisa Simpson. He has two brothers and two nephews. He enjoys hunting, fishing and wrestling and in his spare time he likes to ride four-wheelers. When asked who he would like to spend time with he wrote: “My grandpa Bill. He died before I was ever able to meet him and I am sure he was really fun to be around.” Ethan’s goal is to attend Langston University and become a physical therapist.
Congratulations to you all!
