Thomas “Tom” Haskin, a life long Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 in the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 85 years.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009 in the First Presbyterian Church in Cushing with Pastor Tom Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park.
The son of the late Dwight Haskin and Sylvia (Hart) Haskin, Tom was born on September 30, 1923 in near Cushing, OK where he was reared and educated.
Shortly after finishing high school, Tom entered into the United States Military and following his honorable discharge he returned to Cushing. He was united in marriage to Helen Douglas in 1945 and she preceded him in death on December 20, 1993. During their time together, they were devoted to helping children. This was evident in the shear number of children that they fostered over the years (well over 25). Tom worked for several years in the oilfield where he owned and operated his own sputter unit. He also owned and operated a dozer service for several years, but his passion was farming which he did most of his life. After retiring from the oilfield, Tom worked for the United States Post Office in Cushing for 17 years. Tom was later married to Linda Slater on May 25, 1997 in Drumright, OK. Many will remember Tom as a man that never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his brothers and sons.
Survivors include his wife Linda of Cushing; two sons, Roy Haskin and his wife Kathy of Cushing and John German and his wife Robbie of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother Olin Haskin and his wife Judy of West Virginia; one sister, Pat Endicott and her husband Ken of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Kyle German, Cole German, Amanda Haskin, Vanessa Brown and her husband Andy, and Heather Haskin; numerous foster children; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, Helen, Tom was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Sue Haskin; three sisters, Annie Grace Haskin, Betty Wolfe, and Leone Haskin; and six brothers, Harold Haskin, Woody Haskin, Lloyd Haskin, Marlin Haskin, Delbert Haskin, and Curtis Haskin.
The Haskin family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Cushing, OK in Tom’s name.
Condolences and an online guestbook are available at www.palmermarlerfh.com.
