Downtown Centennial Park will be the location of a Downtown Trick or Treat event from 6-8 pm this Friday, October 31. There will be a costume contest with awards sponsored by US Martial Arts, and a carved pumpkin contest with prizes sponsored by Old Songs Sung Here. There will also be a Broom Race sponsored by Bounce N Party. A bean bag toss, a ‘spook walk’ and a fishing game are also in the works.
Hot dogs and hot cocoa will be available at a nominal cost as well.
The costume contest is divided into four age groups: 0-3, 4-7, 8-13, and 14 and up.
The Broom Race is divided into these groups: walking age to 3, 4-7, 8-13.
This is being touted as another fun ‘safe zone’ for Halloween night.
The carved pumpkin contest (please carve your pumpkins at home and bring them already designed) will contain three prize divisions: Scariest, Cutest and People’s Choice. Scariest and Cutest will be determined by local judges with medals and small cash prize to be awarded. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by which pumpkin raises the most money for the Downtown Main Street organization. A coffee can with corresponding entry number will be placed in front of each pumpkin and voters make their choice by placing spare change in the can. At 8 0’clock the votes (money) will be counted and the winner announced. The winner of this category will receive a special prize to be announced at that time.
Costume and pumpkin entries will be from 6 to 6:30. At 7:00 the costume winners will be announced. At 7:15 the Broom Races will take place and at 8:00 the Carved Pumpkin winners will be announced.
Area residents are invited to bring their lawnchairs and candy and come join the fun.
