Walter A. Simnitt passed away Nov. 16, 2011, in Vinita, OK at the age of 86 years.

    The son of the late Walter A. Simnitt, Sr. and Myrtle Holmes Simnitt, Walter was born on April 13, 1925. in Yale, OK and was raised and educated in the Ponca City area.

    He was united in marriage to June Cady on December 24, 1945 and to this union two children, Stephen and Cynthia was born.

    Walter had worked for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company for over 33 years prior to his retirement on June 12, 1980.

    He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church; was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy; he was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish.  He also enjoyed dancing, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.

    Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, June of the home; one son Stephen Simnitt of Denver, CO; one daughter Cynthia Lindsley and her husband Thomas of Allegan, MI; one sister Alice Harding of Battle Ground, WA; three grandchildren, Thomas Lindsley, Andrew Lindsley and Eve Matchett; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.

    Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cheryl Armstrong-Kaukis officiating.
