Lois Gertrude Cates was born January 16, 1939 to Clifford Samuel Thurman and Golda Marie Raines Thurman. She went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, February 20, 2009.
Lois attended grade school at Buckeye before the family moved to the Olive community where Lois graduated from high school in 1957. That same year Lois visited the home of her Uncle Raymond Raines in Lovington, New Mexico where she met and later married Rocky Wilson. The couple had eight sons.
For many years Lois was a single parent working as a nurse’s aide to support her eight sons. She also worked for Head Start and throughout her life she furnished babysitting services to other young parents, always loving each child in her charge as her own.
In 1988, Lois met and married the “Love of Her Life”, Richard Cates and the couple made their home here in Yale. Their home was filled with love and laughter by the frequent visits of their children, grandchildren, and other family members and friends.
Lois enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, preparing meals with her daughters-in-law, taking day trips with her sisters, and working in her flowerbeds. She was an avid reader, enjoyed studying and discussing the Bible, enjoyed attending church and endeavored to impress the joy and love of God in her life upon her loved ones.
Lois was preceded in death by two sons — Matthew Burke Wilson and Shawn David Wilson. She is survived by six sons: Rocky Lee Wilson of Yale, Jackie Dee Wilson and wife Vicky of Sapulpa, Danny Martin Wilson and wife Tina of Yale, Billy Von Wilson and wife Krista of Drumright, Tony Allen Wilson and wife Kelly of Williamstown, Missouri, Clifford Glenn Wilson and wife Casandra of Drumright, two daughters-in-law: Marie Wilson-Gundlach and husband Joe of Enid and Kim Wilson of Oilton and one step son Duane Cates and wife Diane of Ripley.

Lois Cates was a kind, loving individual with a wonderful disposition. She loved the Lord, loved her family and friends, and loved life. Her passing will leave a void in the lives of more people than she could have ever imagined.
