(Cushing, Okla.) Friends and family of Gilbert and Joyce Patterson are invited to join them as they celebrate 50 years of marriage. Gilbert Patterson and Joyce Wells were married in 1960 at Eden Chapel in the High Prairie Community. Together Gilbert and Joyce found friendship, raised a family, and built a beautiful marriage in the Cushing community. Share in their celebration on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Hillside School located at 2714 N. Kings Highway. The event is a casual afternoon of fun to reminisce about old times and enjoy each other’s company. They look forward to sharing this special day with family and friends.
Gilbert and Joyce met at a swim party at Yost Lake near Stillwater in 1958. While attending the party, they were introduced by mutual friends. Gilbert graduated from Cushing High School in 1959 while Joyce graduated from Ripley High School in 1960. The Patterson’s have lived in the Cushing area since their marriage.
Gilbert worked in the oil field supply business throughout his career; first for Jones and Laughlin and later in his own business, Patterson Pump & Supply. Joyce worked for the Hudson and Kerr-McGee refineries before joining her husband at Patterson Pump. Throughout their marriage, Gilbert has enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Both Gilbert and Joyce have been actively involved in the local athletic community by coaching through the Youth Center and Joyce served on the Youth Center board for over 20 years. They enjoy attending local sporting events and spending time with their family.
Gilbert and Joyce have two children. Cindy Patterson Thompson is a 1981 graduate of Cushing High School. Cindy worked at Dell Computer for many years and published her book “A Cup of Cappuccino for the Entrepreneur’s Spirit Volume II” last year. Barry Patterson is married to Karla Simpson Patterson and they are both Cushing graduates in the class of 1985. Barry is the Athletic Director at Cushing High School after serving many years as Cushing’s wrestling coach. Barry coached Cushing to 3 state championships and 6 dual state championships. Karla has been a kindergarten teacher at Sunnyside for 13 years. They have three children; Louden who will graduate from The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond with a degree in general studies, Jarrod who is a sophomore at OU on a wrestling scholarship, and Kyler who is a seventh grader in Cushing public schools.
