Funeral services for Cushing resident, Dixie Preston will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 in the Cushing First Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Dr. Larry Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at Yale, OK. with Matt Naifeh, Nick Naifeh, Greg Brooks, Richard Rowland, Jake Mason, & Randy Hatfield serving as casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright, OK.
Dixie Preston was born in Oilton, OK on April 13, 1928 to the late Richard Lee Ledgerwood & Thelma Maiden (Orton) Ledgerwood. She passed from this life in Tulsa on October 11, 2009 at the age of 81 years, 5 months, & 28 days.  She grew up in the Yale area & attended the Yale Schools. On May 28, 1946 she married Harvie Preston in Drumright & they made their home in Cushing. She & her husband owned & operated Harvie’s TV Service & the Zenith Store in Cushing for many years until their retirement in 1987. Dixie & Harvie were accomplished musicians & would travel around the area performing as often as they could. Writing songs & singing was Dixie’s lifelong passion. She was a nationally recognized songwriter, appearing in Billboard Magazine, & was a Nashville BMI associate. Her talent & love for music will be her legacy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 & a brother: John Ledgerwood.
Her remaining family includes her loving son & daughter-in-law: Ronnie & Karen Preston of Cushing; Grandson: Billy Preston & his wife Courtney of Cushing; Brother: Joe Ledgerwood of Drumright; Longtime friend & running buddy: Freddie Wilson of Drumright. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, her musician family, & many loving friends.
